Good Cop/Bad Cop

February 4, 2017

I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning to think that the Trump management strategy is to flood the media with so much disinformation that it confounds their ability to keep up with the load of distinguishing fact from fiction.  It’s a lot like a media version of the Warren Commission report on the JFK assassination, 27 volumes of non-indexed and largely irrelevant information such as details concerning Lack Ruby’s pubic hair. HUH?  Oh yes.

As Trump’s approval rating shows, he is the least-liked president entering office in modern times and the management of information coming through appointees in his administration does little to better his cause.  No surprise, Kellyanne Conway has more alternate facts to reveal.  As recently as yesterday she spoke of an Obama travel ban after a terrorist massacre at Bowling Green years ago, neither of which occurred.  What are we to make of this besides she’s a liar willing to latch onto anything out there in the internet echo-verse of  fake news and propagate it as fact for political purposes?

Or how about total ineptitude releasing a video of the recent Yemen operation in which a navy Seal died, only to have it revealed that it was  shot 9 years ago and has been on YouTube all this time.  Are these people not clowns?  You have to be pretty darn bad to draw fire from the likes of Dick Cheney and turn Glen Beck to embrace the progressive movement. Yes, “Times they are a changin’ ”

And now, regarding the leaks of Trump’s phone call with the Australian Prime minister and the clean up by surrogates, it’s beginning to look like he pulls his strategy from formula scripts for old cop shows.  It’s called good cop/bad cop.  You know how it plays out.  First the bad cop goes at a suspect with threats and rough treatment, then the good cop changes places with him and offers the suspect a cigarette and a drink, makes friends and negotiates a deal. Wow!  Brilliant!

So it should come as no surprise that we hear conflicting policy from Trump and his appointees like Nikki Haley and Michael Flynn.  Expect to get a lot more.  It’s just a good cop/bad cop ploy to drive his ratings. It’s all about the ratings.
